Without a vibrant link building campaign you can not touch the peak of search engine optimization. Link building involves a number of various procedures like article submission, blog posting, one-way link building and web directory submission.

Web directory is a great source of getting a quality back link for your website. There are thousands of free as well as paid directories over the internet that allow gaining you back links in abundance. Will the help of a web directory you can assume that your website is viewed by the potential customer.

Basically a web directory is the collection of websites and web pages pointing toward a specific niche. They have manually defined categories and arranged in the form of topics and sub-topics to facilitate even browsing toward the relevant topic. Your link is placed in the relevant category and considered as the back link by the search engines. The older the web directory the more valuable it is considered by both the webmasters and the search engines.

Two types of directories are generally used of link building. The one called as free directories and the other termed as the paid directories. Free directories allow you to submit the link of your website absolutely free and can be prove as a great link building tool. However, its most desirable to submit your link in a paid web directory. Free directory like Dmoz do not guarantee you to place the link in their listings or you have to wait for several months, even years to make your link appear in DMoz.

A paid web directory is a ready made solution for your link building problems. Most of the paid directories are human edited and hold a decent page rank. They charge an inclusion fee that can be a one for a life time placement fee or a recurring monthly or annual fee.

Unlike free directories where your link is lost in a sea of spammy links, paid web directories keeps your link visible as they do not have tons of links under single category. Most of the free directories are made for commercial purposes and use adsense and other advertising space on the directory which make it unprofessional and crowded.

Paid directories do not have adsense and other earning programs running on their websites. Most of the paid directories follow strictly professional lay out and are maintained by the professional webmasters. They guarantee you on time submission after reviewing your website. Most of the paid directories include resourceful and informational websites so search engine value them more as compared to a link coming from a free directory.

Many webmasters are very much interested in link building via free directories. I am in same line. I am doing directory submission for my sites from end of 2005; it’s a great way to advertise your site and good for SEO too.Everything was fine but few of directory owners are doing some unethical job. Like, selling emails to third party or using emails ID for their hidden business purpose (e.g., Selling Viagra!). Don’t ask me who are they. I can’t give you any exact directory owner name but I am sure some are doing that. After submitting my sites in various directories, I am regularly getting Viagra offer!

Now these days we have got another way to get kick on email box. iEntry network, they bought a large amount of web directories from the market for sending their newsletter. You don’t need to subscribe there, if you had any submission on their acquired web directories then you are in hell. You are bound to receive their informative newsletter!

Every week I am getting emails from them, I am tired to doing unsubscribe from their network but still getting emails from them. Obviously their unsubscribe option isn’t meant to work. It’s perhaps just there to verify that the email has been read!

Now I have changed my policy, I am using one email address for my directory submission purpose and that email address is not important to me. You should do the same!
